Language...

This morning, you told me how one of the girls spoke to you in French for the first time yesterday. Being that I know a bit of French, I spent a bit teaching you first how to respond to what she said, then a few important phrases for the raising of a little girl. It got me thinking about our separate languages being another barrier that Fate seems to have removed for us. You even said you’d always had an unusual interest in, and want to learn, English. I stopped being surprised by that long ago, having accepted that the hand of serendipity has been moving us toward one another, crafting us perfectly to fit as we do, our whole lives.

While I’m glad you can speak my language, I’m still working on learning yours, because I see how often it pains you not to be able to express yourself yet as clearly as you’d like. We manage quite well, as you mastery of English is excellent and getting better every day, but it seems like such a small effort for such a large thing as being able to hear your thoughts in your native tongue. Someday, I’ll write you a letter in words that feel like home in more than just their contents. You are, for your part, a patient and enthusiastic teacher, which I deeply appreciate. One more thing to add to the extensive list of things I love you about you, my sweet girl, and there are many. Because I do love you, so very much, now and always.
