Smiles...
You have a thousand smiles,
Or more,
Each one different,
Profound, beautiful, perfect.
The work of a lifetime,
Learning them, one by one,
Etching them across my heart,
So that I may always see you true,
Know you, understand you,
As you deserve to be.
The smile when you are overwhelmed
With love and hope and joy
That it cannot be held back
And bursts forth, broad and lovely.
The secret smile, when you see me,
And think that I don’t notice.
The teary-eyed smile
As you ache with longing
For miles too many to count.
The smile that is only mine,
That comes when I say that I love you,
That I choose you,
That you are all I’ve searched for,
Even before I knew your name.
I will hold tight to them,
Catalog them in my mind,
And they will keep guiding me,
Bright stars in the darkness,
To lead me, always, home.
