Tillsammans

One of the first words you ever taught me was tillsammans. It was very early on, when we were working through how to be together despite the odds. We knew, even then, that there wasn’t much we couldn’t figure out, and tillsammans became the symbol of that determination. Over the time and many, many trials since, it’s proven to be true. Together, we can do anything, get through anything. Now, when one of us is afraid or anxious, tillsammans has become a way to offer reassurance. 

At our deepest core, I think that’s why our relationship is as safe and stable as it is. No matter how difficult something is, in the world, or within ourselves, there isn’t a trace of doubt in either of us that the other will always be there, be willing to work as long as it takes to understand, even if we don’t understand ourselves, at first. Because tillsammans is what we are, in every sense, and, as long as our hearts are in this, nothing can ever threaten that. I believe we are meant to be together, and that theory is proven truer each day that passes, with each new conversation, with every I love you, every time we conquer another obstacle, or make another dream come true. 

More than anything, tillsammans is a promise. When I say it to you, I am telling you, with every ounce of certainty I possess, that I will be yours, always, come what may. I will never not fight for you, for us. I will grow with you. I will stand beside you for the rest of my days, because it’s where I know I was meant to be. I will strive to create a life where you can feel free, happy, loved, seen, heard, and safe, now and always. I will love you, with all that I am, never doubting, never wavering. You are my forever. And that’s what it means, all wrapped into one word. Tillsammans, my sweet girl. Alltid.
