Your letter!

You sent me a letter last night. I was walking along the shore, having just thrown into the sea my own missive for the day, when I spotted an unfamiliar bottle floating in the shallows. Curious, I wandered over to it and picked it up. When I saw the rolled up paper inside, my heart skipped a beat. When I unraveled it and saw your gentle script across the pages, it stopped altogether for a moment. I fell slowly onto the rocks nearby, tears swelling in my eyes, a I read.

You told me that you had been receiving the letters, every one, and that they had kept you afloat in the darkness of our separation, that they had given you the hope I so desperately wanted to send you in my absence. You wrote to me of your longing, and your love, assuring me that we would be together soon. I read and reread the letter, savoring every word, every letter, then held it to my chest as though I could someone hold you through it, and wondered if you had felt the same with mine.

I will continue to write, as long as it takes, to lead you back home to me, and I will search every day for another of your letters, when I send my own out into the world. That we will be together again is no longer and act of faith, but of certainty, for I know that you are working just as hard as I  to make it so. I love you, so much, my sweet girl. I will be right here, now and always.
